Sometime this fortnight – I forgot to note the exact date - The MacMahonian turns 1.
In The MacMahonian´s 1st year of existence, over 50 reviews, news and comments were published (about one per week, hoped to do more, it was a busy year, will try to improve) and the blog had between 0 and some 50 visits daily (not having exactly made a consistent effort in terms of marketing or advertising). Feedback was sparse but I´m happy and surprised to say overall positive, and not only from friends and loved ones.
I had no idea how difficult it is to write film criticism, if that´s what this is. To see a film, decide you like or not and why and conclude your taste and discernment are the best is easy. To put it into words is another matter. When I reread what has been written, the reaction varies between mild satisfaction and deep embarrassment.
So what lessons does all this entail for the future? Like Franz Kafka´s Josef K,The MacMahonian doesn´t really believe in learning from experience. The motto for Year 2 is: carry on regardless. Projects include (1) an initiative of cyclopic conceptual implications, namely merging the News and Comment pages into a single one, called “News and Comments”, (pray where does all this inspiration come from?), (2) maybe beef up slightly the graphics and (3) try and make titles and names clickable for cross-reference, search engines etc.
Thanks everyone for the time and attention.
